discover scuba - Try Dive

Your first time underwater!

This introduction to SCUBA is your opportunity to see what it's like to be underwater, and to prove, we really can breathe below the surface!

Many people are unsure if they'd like to commit to SCUBA diving. Those feelings are often due to an uncertainty of what the environment is like - and yet, they've heard it's good, or been attracted by the mystique, or something they've seen on TV.

A 'Try Dive' is a gentle approach to entering the water under the safety and guidance of instructors and Divemasters. There's never a rush in the SCUBA world, and we'll take everything at your pace!

What to expect

You'll meet your instructors at the pool who'll introduce themselves and the course of events for the dive in a calm and friendly manner.

They'll show you the kit you'll be using on your dive - don't worry if you don't remember everything!

You'll be wearing whatever you'd usually wear if you were going swimming, with the addition of a 'Rash Vest' if needed. A BCD (Buoyancy Control Device) which is a little like a life jacket, a Cylinder filled with breathing air, a regulator set - which allows you to breathe, and a mask - so you can see underwater!

You'll go to the poolside, and gently enter the water. Because of your BCD, which will be inflated, you'll float.

Slowly you'll place your face in the water, with regulator in, and mask on, just to prove you can breathe underwater!

Then, when you're ready, you'll release air from the BCD, and slowly descend to the floor of the pool (Shallow end!). You'll complete some basic exercises under water, and learn how to regulate your breathing so it's consistent and effective.

Starting with a try dive convinced us we were making the right choice in learning to dive.
